In an interview with Yahoo Movies, Christian Bale opened up about his characterisation of Batman in ‘The Dark Knight’ trilogy.

Bale told Yahoo that whilst Christopher Nolan was pleased with his role as Batman, Bale was not. Feeling that he didn’t manage to get quite dark enough for the Bruce Wayne character.

“Batman, he’s this very, very dark, messed-up character. I found when I put on the suit I went, ‘I just feel like a bloody idiot if I don’t use this as a means to (show) his true, monstrous self that he allows to come out in that moment.’”

Adding to his feeling of not quite nailing the role, Bale stated that the appearance of Health Ledger didn’t help.

“Heath turned up, and just kind of completely ruined all my plans, because I went, ‘He’s so much more interesting than me and what I’m doing.’”

Then, interestingly, Bale was so attached to his ‘Dark Knight’ characterisation that when he found Affleck had been given the role for the next franchise, Bale stared into nothingness for over 30 minutes. Stating afterwards “But I’m 40. The fact that I’m jealous of someone else playing Batman … I think I should have gotten over it by now.”

Well if it’s any consolation Bale, we think your Batman was the best yet.
