Dark Dressers: Alessandro Santopaolo
April 30, 2015
Alessandro Santopaolo is a co-founder and art director of Contesta Rock Hair, an Italian project including hair salons between Europe, USA and Asia, and an haircare products line with a distinctive identity and a rock soul.
What does a typical day in the life of Alessandro involve?
I do not have a typical day, except from the morning shower with my son and the breakfast with my beautiful wife. However, every day is definitely full of work between China, Europe and the US. Then again coffee, Skype calls, cups of green tea, brainstorming, learning meetings, and make sure to have my daily dose of rock music.
Which are your wardrobe staples and why?
A basic black t-shirt by American Apparel, a light denim shirt by Levi’s, a skinny jeans by Cheap Monday, my leather shoes by Clarks and a bag by the independent Italian brand Nabi, obviously total black. Why? Although I love colors, black is the one for me.
What’s your favourite item in your closet?
A Yohji Yamamoto coat received when we opened CRH salon in Manhattan. It saved my life in the coldest winter ever.
How would you describe your personal style?
I would not label myself, although my clothing is indeed total black and I wear skinny jeans and Clarks shoes the year-round, no matter if it snows or it’s 40 degrees. That’s also because my father reminds me every time that wherever I am, I am a man from the metropolitan jungle.
Where do you shop?
Usually online, and when I am in New York I always do shopping at Opening Ceremony.
Your style icons?
Actually I do not have any style icons but I do enjoy people wearing effortlessly cool outfits in the streets
Two most important moments that influenced your style?
The first has been a constant since I was a little kid. I grew up with punk-rock music, which has been the soundtrack of my life. The other one could be the experience of the high contrast and energy I absorbed in China. Can you imagine that 20 years ago?
